Why Obama Was Elected
Written by “John Adams”
President Barack Obama, the first black man to ever be elected president. Wow, that’s an accomplishment, America. Fifty years pass since the black community finally got the rights they deserve, and the first, at least partly, black man is elected to the highest political office. That shows a lot of growth, America. It shows a lot of character from us all, character this country has had for 20 years.“Woh, woh, woh Adams” you say. ”20 years?!?!”
Yes, 20 years. Where am I getting this ludicrous idea? My generation is free of racism. Sure, there are some racist rednecks and crazy baptists churches, but as a whole my generation (born in the late 80’s through the 90’s) is racism free. Most of y’alls generation is free of that awful affliction. You can not deny that. If you deny it, then you are simply being ignorant. So, if this whole generation is free of racism what does that tell me about the whole country itself. It tells me that our parents, the generation above us, has moved on from racism as well. Our parents raised us to be accepting of people as people and nothing else. So two generations of people are free of racism. So the age bracket of at-or-under about fifty years of age (2 generations round-a-bout) is free of racism as a relative whole in this country.
This country is for the most part free of racism. How exactly is that? By my estimation fifty years of age covers about 65-75% of the country, because the average lifespan is mid-70’s. Also keep in mind, a majority of the people who wake up early to vote on voting day are people aged 18-50.
So whats that got to do with Barack Obama? Well, hang with me, this country in the wake of the rights movements in the 50’s and 60’s established laws and general ideas that White America was forced to uphold. The biggest examples being Affirmative Action and the idea of Political Correctness. Neither of which were terrible ideas at the time, but these things STILL EXIST. The majority of the working force is from their 20’s-50’s (the generations free of racism) and yet they are still bound by Affirmative Action. Now that the working force has a perfectly fair idea of race (that it doesn’t matter) Affirmative Action has become unfair. Now employers don’t need to be told to employ a black man or woman, they just do so based off credentials. The bigger of these two things, though, is “political correctness”. At some point our country’s culture accepted these ideas into its system, that there were things you couldn’t say. In the beginning, you couldn’t say “Nigger” then we got better and you couldn’t say “Negro” then we got even better and you couldn’t say “Colored”. All of which is fantastic, you say that now and you’ll get hit, stabbed, or fined, which is as it should be. Its the culture that “political correctness” created that’s the problem. Political correctness and affirmative action created a paranoia amongst white Americans. If you say something wrong you get in trouble, if you act wrong you get in trouble; so what does America do? It constantly seeks ways to help out the Black community (a.k.a. not do something wrong). The culture is one of fear and frankly, paranoia that if you mess up and say something “racist” then you will be cut off from society or beaten to death. You can’t really deny that either, if you are a white male: how scared are you of making an accidentally racist remark?
So this leads to my final point, and the very reason this blog was written. Why did Obama get elected?
America as a whole since the beginning of time has always been moderate with a right tendency. When the right screws up, america elects a moderate democrat. Then they screw up and we elect a moderate right-winger, etc. There have been very few truly left or truly right presidents. That being said, Barak Obama does NOT fit that mold. Barack Obama is way left in comparison to the rest of our presidents (with exception to maybe FDR). Barack Obama is not a moderate, not even close. Which leads to my big point here: If Barack Obama was a white man named John Smith he would never, ever have been elected. He wouldn’t have even been nominated by his party. Barack Obama and the liberals took a chance, they played with America’s paranoia to offend a black person/be racist and won heartily. America wanted a democrat in wake of Bush’s failures, and would normally have voted for a moderate. Instead America got a pretty far-left democrat. However there was a catch, this pretty far left democrat is a black man, and you don’t want to be a racist so you’d better vote for Obama.
So, now, when you see all this confrontation and criticism of President Obama, don’t call that racism. America just woke up, that’s all. America proved itself, to itself, and to the world. America is not a racist country anymore, we have a black president. And in light of that, America has realized in these past months since his 4-year term began…that it elected a pretty far left democrat and he’s trying to mold this country with some pretty socialistic ideals! And America is not happy that they’ve been duped, so they’re criticizing.
So: please don’t call criticism of Obama racist, and don’t ever put up with the race card again (or use it), because racism is dying. Its only remnants belong in the old people of the generation that was forced to stop being racist. Barack Obama will be rightly criticized just as Bush was, because he is not doing what America wants from its presidents. And next time a black man, or an Hispanic, or an Indian man, or whoever you please, is nominated president, don’t vote for them out of fear. Vote for them based off of their credentials, off of the platform on which they stand.
(Oh, and note: I used the word Black, because we’re all Americans. I’m not a European-American, your neighbor isn’t an Asian-american, and Barack Obama isn’t an African-American. We are all Americans, thats it, plain and simple.)
