Who We Are (HLR)

Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau (HLR) were three impactful philosophers who proposed variations on the same idea: a social contract theory, the concept that government should work by entering into a contract, a mutual agreement with its people, governing with their consent and input and for their good. The principles of a democratic republic agree with this concept entirely, and as a democratic republic, America’s government has entered into a social contract with those it represents. However, we believe that in recent years the American government has broken its side of our contract. However, this does not leave those of us under its rule without options. The Declaration of Independence, the document that addressed another fracture of a social contract, provides for such a fracture in these words: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and provide new Guards for their future security.” In 1825, Noah Webster stated in the wake of the generation of the Founding Fathers that “…there remains to us a great duty of defense and preservation.” We see and recognize this duty as pertaining to our own present generation and through these forthcoming efforts seek to fulfill it. The contract has been broken – and must be repaired or altered.

The HLR Project is our way of getting the word out, a revolution of words and knowledge. And that, dear readers, is why you are reading this blog. Enjoy.
